The Terror of Riltar
Cruel, stupid, and filled with brutality, the trolls of Riltar are a force to be reckoned with. While many different types of trolls exist, all share some similar qualities. An absolute hatred of cities and villages, trolls are filled with a rage for such places of civilization. Bearing claws, and a cunning ingenuity built for cruelty, trolls are notoriously hard to kill. Gifted with a regeneration strong enough to replace and regrow limbs, trolls can take out entire sellsword parties if the group is not prepared well enough. Trolls have always had a sort of symbiotic relationship with witches and hags. Not very smart themselves, trolls rely on witches for more magic based goals. In exchange, they provide their brute force and strength. It's safe to assume that if there is a troll, there is a witch lurking somewhere nearby.
Despite a trolls usual bloodthirsty manner and love of carnage, they are oddly tender and caring towards those within their families. Female trolls are treated with great respect, and cared for in the tribes scattered throughout Riltar. A matron troll is often in charge of troll tribes, said to be able to cast magic as a mage though very few have reported this and lived to tell the tale.
The most fearsome of all trolls is one named only Grendel. Grendel is said to be a monster even among troll kind. Bound by unending rage, the tales of Grendel span very far back in history, appearing time and time again in seemingly random parts of Riltar. The latest Grendel born was some odd 100 years ago, and was said to be slain by the mightiest of warriors, Radkai Luboc a Grimm Moonbane. No one is quite sure how Grendel comes about, all that the tales tell is that a flickering blue and purple flame will appear just moments before his arrival.
